Rachel Corrie: A Martyr’s Light in the Struggle for Palestinian Freedom

On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old American peace activist, was killed by an Israeli bulldozer in Rafah, Gaza. Rachel was a member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), a group dedicated to nonviolent resistance to the Israeli occupation of Palestine. She stood in front of a Palestinian home, attempting to prevent its demolition when the bulldozer ran her over, resulting in her tragic death.

Rachel’s commitment to justice and her ultimate sacrifice brought international attention to the plight of the Palestinian people and highlighted the severe risks faced by activists in conflict zones. Her story is a powerful symbol of the global struggle for human rights and the enduring spirit of those who stand against oppression.
